Bellevue College Vies for Online Votes for Environmental Prize

You can help Bellevue College become the top video in the 2013 Second Nature Climate Leadership Awards, awards that recognize campus efforts in environmental sustainability.

Bellevue College is aiming for the top spot in a public video voting competition related to being recognized as one of the top colleges and universities in the country by the 2013 Second Nature Climate Leadership Awards.

Bellevue College’s is one of 20 colleges and universities nationwide to be a finalist for the awards.

As part of the awards recognition, the online community is voting for which college has the most innovative program. All of Second Nature’s Climate Leadership Award Finalists were asked to create a 1 to 3 minute video highlighting a climate innovation on campus, according to award partner Planet Forward.

People who want to support Bellevue College can vote for its video (the fifth one down on the left) on Planetforward.com's website. Voting continues through the end of the month.

Bellevue College's video features a wide variety of campus activities that lessen the college's carbon footprint and helps promote sustainability.

Currently, the college's video has the sixth most votes.

The awards recognize institutions that best exemplify the mission of the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) to re-stabilize the earth’s climate through education, research and community engagement, according to Bellevue College.

Winners will be selected later this spring by the Second Nature Board of Directors.

“We’re extremely proud of this recognition for the steps our campus has taken to operate in more sustainable ways,” BC President David L. Rule said in a prepared statement. “We also know that we have lots of room for improvement, and we’re continually working to find ways to make Bellevue College that much more environmentally friendly.”

The Climate Leadership Awards are awards given by Second Nature, a nonprofit founded by Secretary of State John Kerry and his wife, Teresa Heinz.

Second Nature was founded to promote environmental sustainability through higher education.
