Walmart put its two Bellevue stores in big-box store locations that had been empty for years. Kelsey Creek's location had been vacated by K-Mart for a decade and the Factoria Mervyn's had been vacant for several years.

The Factoria Walmart location will join Target and a Safeway in the same mall, and in Factoria Village across the street, a QFC and a Bartell Drugs that opened two years ago.

The local chapter of the union-backed Making Change at Walmart has criticized the Bellevue stores for competing with unionized grocery stores, such as Safeway and QFC.

Walmart earlier this year publicized that it had opened a Bellevue office for hiring for about 125 jobs at for the Factoria store. The hourly wage as of July 2012 was $13 an hour, and the company offers health insurance and other benefits.*

The Bellevue Patch community was split on whether they looked forward to the two Walmarts in Bellevue, with comments on the site saying they looked forward to the new stores and comments on our Facebook page generally more against the new stores.
