Seattle Humane Society to Expand Hours

New expansion of hours will accommodate people who have to work late.

Potential pet adopters have more hours a week to meet Fido or Fluffy after the expands its hours starting July 1.

The animal shelter in the Eastgate neighborhood will be open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday. This means that Seattle Humane, at 13212 SE Eastgate Way, will be open three more hours each day Thursday and Friday and two more hours on Saturday. The shelter will also be open to the public earlier than it is now Monday through Wednesday.

Director of Operations Katie Olsen and CEO David Loewe instituted the change in order to accommodate late working schedules and other common errands to give  people time  in the evenings to drop by the shelter and visit potential pets, said Seattle Humane Society spokeswoman Amanda Walde.

"We wanted to be more available to our customers," Walde said.

The Seattle Humane Society is an independent nonprofit shelter that has been around for more than 100 years. It shelters and adopts cats, dogs and other pets, offers classes for pets and their owners and operates a pet food bank for families who cannot afford to feed their pets.

According to the Seattle Humane Society, about 4,900 dogs and cats were adopted from its shelter in 2010.

New Hours:

11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday

11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday
