Reminder: Sky Metalwala Vigil and Balloon Release Saturday at Bellevue Downtown Park

People still searching for missing toddler Sky Metalwala, 2, are holding a candlelight vigil and balloon release at Bellevue Downtown Park at 5:30 p.m. tonight (Saturday Feb. 18).

A balloon release and candlelight vigil is being organized for Sky Metalwala, the Redmond toddler missing since November, by Sky's father, Solomon Metalwala and search group LostNMissing.

Solomon Metalwala still is consumed with the search for his missing son, who was reported missing in November by Sky's mother, and Metalwala's estranged wife, Julia Biryukova, said Metalwala's attorney Clay Terry.

"This constant not knowing is killing the family," Terry said.

Biryukova, told Bellevue Police that she left him in the car early one Sunday on a Bellevue street when she ran out of gas, and he was gone when she and a friend returned to the car. However, police could not corroborate her story of a car break down, and said that it had been at least two weeks prior to his disappearance since anyone apart of Biryukova had seen the boy.

After the initial interviews, Biryukova stopped talking voluntarily to police, the Bellevue Police reported.

Metalwala has worked with hundreds of volunteers to distribute fliers all over the Eastside and up and down western Washington in search for information over the past three months, and Terry and the Metalwala family have searched for other clues and witnesses who may have seen the boy to come forward.

Terry said that the flyers and media attention have worked -- and witnesses have come forward to narrow down the last time anyone other than Biryukova reported seeing the boy.

However, the efforts have not brought them closer to Sky, though the community support has helped the family.

"The entire family feels hopeless," Terry said, in reference to Metalwala and his family. "The one thing that helps is that people have been so fantastic. That means so much to them."

The event will be at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 18 at  Bellevue Downtown Park, 10301 NE 4th Street, according to search group LostNMissing's blog.

Sky and his four-year-old sister were at the center of a bitter custody battle between their estranged parents, Biryukova and Solomon Metwalwala. Solomon Metalwala won custody of their daughter in December.

Solomon Metalwala and his attorney have organized volunteers to canvass the Puget Sound and the state to find information that would lead to finding Sky. Police have not named anyone a "person of interest" and the investigation continues.
