Total Wine & More 'Uncorks' Fun in Record Breaking Attempt

On July 12, about 300 people came to the recently opened Total Wine & More store in Bellevue to try and break the record for "most people uncorking wine simultaneously."

Hundreds of people came to Bellevue’s new store to pop bottles and try to break the Guinness World Record for “most people uncorking wine simultaneously.”

The store was aiming for a total of 400 people, but needed over 308 participants to break the record. They were unfortunately short a few people, hitting approximately 300. The Bellagio in Las Vegas currently holds the record, according to Ed Cooper, the vice president of public affairs for the Total Wine & More.

Nonetheless, the event, which was held inside the store on July 12, was a success as 300 wine aficionados, members from the industry and the general public enjoyed wine tasting, a barbeque and take-home goodie totes.

Philip Robertson from the Guinness World Records organization stated the rules. Each participant had 30 seconds to uncork their wine bottle after the buzzer went off.

Karen Lotorto and her husband stumbled into the hoopla.

“We came in to see the new wine store,” said Lotorto, but stayed for the record breaking and all of the fun that followed.

The wine did not go to waste. The wines that were uncorked were made available for taste testing after the record ceremony.
