Shocking but true, kids access porn on their smart phones and watch it on the school bus. Here's what to tell your kids about this fact of modern school bus transportation.
School is soon to be back in session here on the west coast and that means time on the school bus. It also means smart phones and Internet access in the hands of impulsive and curious kids.
And porn.
On. The. Bus. Thanks to the ease of access via mobile phones, this happens all the time and is a fact of modern school bus transportation.
Here's what to tell your kids age 5 to 11:
Sometimes kids will use their phones on the bus to look at pornography (or videos of naked people) on the internet. It's not okay for you to look at this because it's not for kids, it's against the rules, and it can be confusing and scary.
If this happens to you, you will not be in trouble. I want you to tell me so we can get that kid help so he's not breaking the rules and all the kids on the bus can be safe.
For older kids - Middle School on up
Ask them directly about what happens on the bus so you know what's going on.
Coach them to say in a snarky and dismissive manner:
Dude! I think watching porn is a solo activity. Have fun with that!
As for what you can do about it - enable parental controls on their phones so they can't access the internet.
And stop thinking "not MY kid" because, frankly, everyone thinks this and it's ALWAYS someone's kid.
