CHEF JOHN HOWIE WINS TASTE OF THE NFL'S KICK HUNGER CHALLENGE

The Seahawks brought home a Super Bowl title for Seattle, but Chef John Howie also has a win to share with the city. For a consecutive year, Chef Howie raised the most money in the country during the Taste of the NFL’s Kick Hunger Challenge, a total of $83,226.10. Winning the challenge as the Seahawks representative, an additional $10,000 is provided to the local community by the Taste of the NFL. All proceeds from the Kick Hunger Challenge are distributed through Seattle Food Lifeline, where $1 provides four nutritious meals to someone in need.

“I’m so proud of Seattle and the 12th man. Winning the Kick Hunger Challenge for the second year in a row is an amazing feat, and it just goes to show how philanthropic this city is,” commented Proprietor/Chef John Howie. “Thanks to those that donated, nearly 400,000 meals will be provided to those in need. I’m so proud of everyone who worked so hard to make this happen, from Craig Terrill, to Pearl Jam, to Amos Bros T-shirts, and everyone from John Howie Restaurants. I’m thankful to you all.”

Chef Howie and former Seahawk and musician Craig Terrill partnered once again to represent the Seahawks this year in the Kick Hunger Challenge; an online-only fundraising campaign spearheaded by Taste of the NFL. This friendly “competition” pits fans from all 32 NFL teams against each other to raise money for food banks in NFL communities nationwide. Throughout the 2013-14 football season, fans had the opportunity to support one of the 32 NFL teams and directly impact the donation of thousands of meals to food banks in their team’s community.

Chef Howie’s efforts to raise money for the Kick Hunger Challenge included raffling a 2013 Toyota Prius, an autographed and framed Russell Wilson jersey, and hosting a fundraising dinner at SPORT Restaurant & Bar. With the help of the charitable people of Washington, Chef Howie and Craig Terrill were able to beat out the top Kick Hunger Challenge teams, Brooklyn and Atlanta, and continue the fight to kick hunger in Western Washington.
