Bellevue Chef Battle Raises $9,000 for Hopelink

Chef Simon Zatyrka from Koral Bar & Kitchen won the competition and Hopelink received $9,000 from the ticket proceeds of the event, which was sponsored by Bellevue Collection.

The Bellevue Collection’s Thursday Chef Battle raised $9,000 toward Hopelink’s End Summer Hunger Program, according to a press release by the Bellevue Collection.

The money raised is equivalent to 4,452 meals, according to the press release. The event was sponsored by the Bellevue Collection, so all the ticket proceeds could go toward the End Summer Hunger program, the press release stated.

The event featured four chefs at restaurants in the Bellevue Collection:

  • Koral Bar & Kitchen – Chef Simon Zatyrka
  • Paddy Coyne’s Irish Pub - Chef Jeff Slemaker
  • Pearl Bar & Dining - Chef JJ Ullakko
  • Ruth’s Chris Steak House – Chef Justin Johnson
They were challenged to come up with a meal out of ingredients commonly found in food banks.

Judges proclaimed chef Simon Zatyrka from Koral Bar & Kitchen the winner, according to the press release. Zatyrka made a Carrot "Pappardelle", using carrots, tomatoes, fennel, asparagus, red bell peppers, thyme, basil, dill, parsley, smoked clams, purple potatoes, lemons, canola oil, salt and pepper.

End Summer Hunger is Hopelink’s campaign to help provide low-income families with food for children who receive free or reduced-fee breakfasts and lunches during the school year.
