Bellevue Closes 3 Beaches This Week for Milfoil Treatment

Meydenbauer, Clyde and Newcastle beaches will have day-long closures this week as the city and nearby property owners control for milfoil, an invasive aquatic weed.

Three Bellevue swimming areas will be closed for 24 hours this week for treatment of invasive milfoil, according to the city parks department.

Meydenbauer and Clyde beaches will be closed for 24 hours starting from 7 a.m. Monday, July 15. Newcastle Beach's swimming area will be closed for 24 hours starting from 7 a.m., Wednesday, July 17, while nearby property owners apply herbicide, according to the city.

While the swimming areas will be closed, the parks will be open.

Invasive milfoil can deprive bodies of water of oxygen and trap sediments, according to the Department of Ecology, which has more information about milfoil on its website.
