Bellevue Library Parking Garage Set to Open June 22

The construction at the downtown Bellevue library branch is nearly at an end, with a grand opening of the library's parking garage set for June 22.

The construction at the downtown Bellevue library branch is nearly at an end, with a grand opening of the library's parking garage set for June 22.

The three level parking garage, which has been under construction since 2011, will have 163 new parking spaces for a total of 362 spaces. The increased parking anticipates a 5 percent increase in the library visitors, according to city documents.

The Bellevue Library is the largest library in the King County Library System, and the second-busiest in the state, according to the Washington List Guy. Parking was severely limited during construction, and programs at the library were held at other nearby locations.

To celebrate the grand opening of the new three-level parking garage at Bellevue Library, a ribbon-cutting and car show will be held Saturday, June 22, at the new parking garage, located next to Bellevue Library at 1111 110th Avenue NE.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony starts at 9:30 a.m. followed by the car show at 10 a.m., according to a press release by the King County Library System. The library system's director Bill Ptacek and community leaders, library staff and residents will be on hand during the ceremony.

The garage's opening will include a car show with more than 40 classic, muscle, exotic and electric cars. See a 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air, 1968 Ford Shelby GT500KR, 1987 Ferrari 328 GTS and many more, according to a press release from the King County Library System.

Street Donuts will be serving mini donuts and the music group SuperSones will entertain the crowd with acoustic Cuban music.

The project features landscaping, including green walls of living plants on the exterior of the garage, a pedestrian walkway and artwork. The car show is in partnership with the LeMay Car Museum, Club Auto Kirkland, the Pacific Northwest Region of the Porsche Club of America and Tesla, according to the King County Library System.

Event parking will be in two of the three levels of the garage with overflow parking in nearby pay lots.
