Survey: Washington Residents Loyal to Landline Phones
A recent survey from PEMCO Insurance found that 68 percent of people living in Washington still have a working land line. Do you?
More than two-thirds of people living in Washington still have a working landline in their homes, according to a new poll from Seattle-based PEMCO Insurance.
Despite our state's high-tech reputation, the percentage of Washington residents with landlines exceeds the national average by about 10 percentage points, PEMCO reports.
About a third of people with landlines in Washington and Oregon said they keep it for emergency purposes. Forty percent cited convenience factors, such as not having to change numbers that are on file with service companies.
Meanwhile, many of those who do use cell phones at home are using it to replace another fading technology—the intercom. PEMCO found that 62 percent of parents with teenage children use their cell phones to communicate with people inside their own homes. About two-thirds of cell phone users under 35 reported the same behavior.
