NW Designer Craftsmen Tour + Lecture Series: How Craft Became Art with Lloyd Herman

Lloyd Herman, Director Emeritus of the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian Art Museum, will take us on a whirlwind visual tour of "craft" as it became recognized as "art" in the past 100 years. In his 20 years at the Smithsonian Institution, and 25 years as an independent curator, he has witnessed first-hand the flowering of the surface design, art quilt and wearable art movements, the growing popularity of unorthodox technology and found objects in new works of art, glass as a new art form and the new DIY movement, and will discuss them in the context of the American Studio Craft Movement.

2 - 3pm: Tour ($6 non-members/Free for BAM members)
