Bellevue Square Addition Proposes Towers, Underground Garage

The proposed addition would replace the parking garage between Macy's and JC Penney and the Oriental Rug Store on Northeast 4th Street and Bellevue Way.

What might the addition to Bellevue Square on the southeast corner -- that is, at the parking garage between Macy's and JC Penney and the Oriental Rug Store on Northeast 4th Street and Bellevue Way --  look like?

Kemper Developer Company's application for Design Review gives us a look, and will get a public presentation next month, according to the city's weekly permit bulletin.

The proposed 3.6-acre project on the southeast corner would have a 3-story retail podium, three residential towers each 17 stories over the podium, and five levels of underground parking with 1,756 stalls.

The new addition would connect with the existing mall space through the retail podium, and the development would someday connect with the proposed Lincoln Square expansion across the street, which will be in the former lot of Your Local Market.

The southern tower would include a 96-room hotel on the lower 10 floors and apartments or condos on the upper seven floors, according to the application.

The total square footage is approx. 785,531 gross square feet, excluding the parking areas, according to the permit application.

Bellevue Square and the Bellevue Collection have been gearing for a $1.2 billion expansion of its properties along Bellevue Way that could start as soon as 2014. Kemper Development Company has also been planning development for new retail space at its west garage.
