Cork Dork: Hooked on Beer, White Party at Matthews Estate

at Woodinville brewery in September.

The brewery was founded in 1981 by Paul Shipman and Starbucks Coffee co-founder Gordon Bowker. Redhook started brewing beer out of a tiny converted transmission shop in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood. After achieving local success with Ballard Bitter (since renamed Long Hammer IPA) and ESB, Redhook grew to become the first nationally distributed craft beer brand.

After a move to a larger location in Fremont, the brewery eventually moved to its current location in Woodinville in 1994. Redhook also brews beer in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The Woodinville brewery houses the serving Redhook beers and pub fare. The combined operation produces 360,000 barrels of beer a year.

Redhook is now owned by the Craft Brewers Alliance, which also owns Widmer Brothers Brewing and Kona Brewing Company. Anheuser-Busch InBev owns a third of the Craft Brewers Alliance.

Devo, the punk/art rock band from Kent, Ohio, will headline the 30th birthday celebration on September 17 at the Woodinville brewery. The Psychedlic Furs and Tom Tom Club will be opening. In addition to live music, the birthday celebration will offer food and Redhook beer including a special beer being released just for the occasion.

Tickets to Redhook’s 30th birthday, exclusively for adults over 21, are available for $30 at the Forecasters Public House or online here. Tickets will also be for sale at the door for $40.

White out at Matthews Estate

will be hosting its second Annual White Party on Friday, August 26 at the winery at 16116 140th Place NE. Parking will be available across the street from the winery with a free shuttle to the winery.

All white attire will be required for entry to the party. White, as well as red, wines will be served by the glass for a fee, $5-$10 a glass and $20-$40 a bottle. G&G Dogs and other food trucks and carts will cater. DJ Darin Hanson and other live performers will provide the entertainment for the evening.
