If you missed out on the online auction of one of Bellevue's Washington State Liquor Stores, you have another crack at it at a live auction Thursday.
The Crossroads Washington State Liquor Store, at 15600 NE 8TH St. #K-07, Bellevue, will be one of 18 stores up for a live auction on Thursday, according to the Washington State Liquor Control Board.
The state auctioned its state-run stores online on the state's Public Surplus website as a result of , which opened liquor sales to retailers with a footprint of 10,000 square feet who apply for liquor licenses.
Auction winners get the right to sell liquor at that location, or within a one-square mile radius. However, the inventory of liquor and the lease on the location are not included in the bid and would be costs that the license holder would have to be responsible for.
The Crossroads store was one of 18 stores in which the highest bidder did not pay, according to the state. The of Vacaville, Calif., who bid $136,000.
According to the state's Data Book on the liquor stores, the Crossroads location had $2.5 million in gross sales during fiscal year 2011. You can download the Data Book on the auction website. The store is about 4,900 square feet.
The stores will be auctioned live at the Washington State Liquor Control Board Distribution Center, 4401 East Marginal Way South, Seattle, WA 98134 starting at 10 a.m. Thursday. (Registration for the event is at 9 a.m.)
The footprints of the existing stores are the only exception to the law's footprint requirement, according to the state. , with some exceptions (listed here on the state liquor control board website).
