AP: US Catholic Bishops in Bellevue Discuss Minor Changes to Child Safety Plan

A report by the head of a committee looking at the plan for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops say that recent cases of misconduct are a result of compliance, not weaknesses in the plan.

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, who are at the through Friday, discussed amendments to the church's policies regarding prevention of sexual abuse by priests.

According to a story by the Associated Press, the proposed revisions would be minor. Click here to see the AP story on MyNorthwest.com.

According to the US Conference of Catholic Bishops' public relations office, the proposed revisions would bring the church's policies into line with the most recent Vatican instructions in this area, including specifically mentioning child pornography as a crime against church law and holding that abuse of someone who habitually lacks reason, for example, someone with mental retardation, is equivalent to child abuse.
