The Bellevue City Council declared 2012 the "Year of the Girl" in honor of the Girl Scouts' 100th anniversary at the city council meeting Monday night -- with plenty of Girl Scouts on hand.
Deputy Mayor Jennifer Robertson, a troop leader and troop cookie manager, read the proclamation. The presented Robertson with a Centennial Pin, and Mayor Conrad Lee with a lapel pin, Robertson said.
The Girls Scouts at the meeting read the Girl Scout Promise and the Girl Scout Law, and several, including Robertson's daughters, were dressed in vintage Girl Scouts Uniforms, she said.
According to the Girls Scouts of Western Washington's website:
Today there are 3.2 million Girl Scouts — 2.3 million girl members and 880,000 adult members working primarily as volunteers. Here in Western Washington we have more than 26,000 members and over 12,500 volunteers!
The proclamation coincides with Girl Scouts cookies sales! You can find out when cookies will be sold in Bellevue near you by checking out the .
