Broken Water Main Closes SE Allen Road Near Tyee Middle School

A water main break has caused a full road closure of SE Allen Road between 138th and 140 Avenues Southeast, according to the Bellevue Fire Department. Eight homes in the area were without water Thursday afternoon.

Update 5:45 a.m. Nov. 30:

A six-inch AC water main broke Thursday afternoon at the intersection of 139th Avenue Southeast and Southeast Allen Road, according to the Bellevue utilities department.

The water main break did not affect Tyee Middle School, but traffic in the area was impacted for the Thursday night evening commute, and could be impacted in the morning.

Allen Road at 138th Avenue Southeast and 140th Avenue Southeast was closed so crews could repair the break. Traffic was detoured to SE 40th Street, according to city officials.

Crews will check conditions Friday morning and will reopen the road when they determine it is stable and safe for travel, according to Bellevue officials.

Eight homes were without water; the city expected service to be restored Thursday evening. There was no major property damage.

The cause of the break is unknown at this time, and crews will be checking the site further for possible causes, according to the utilities department.

Motorists should expect delays in the Thursday (Nov. 29) evening commute after a water main break caused a road closure of SE Allen Road between 138th and 140 Avenues Southeast, according to the Bellevue Fire Department.

According to the Bellevue transportation department, flaggers are directing traffic at Allen Road until 4 p.m. when it will close completely. The road will re-open tomorrow morning at the earliest. Motorists should plan for alternative routes, according to the transportation department.

According to the Bellevue School District, school bus drivers are aware of the closed area and will take detours around the closure. No bus stops are in the area of the road that is closed.
