Celebrating Hanukkah 2012 in Bellevue

Celebrate the Festival of Lights in Bellevue with the Seattle Jewish Chorale Wednesday Dec. 12 at the Temple B'nai Torah. The chorale will perform traditional and contemporary favorites, including work by Mercer Island resident Abraham Kaplan.

Happy Hanukkah in Bellevue! This year, Hanukkah begins on the evening of Saturday, Dec. 8, and ends a week later on Sunday, Dec. 16.

Locals can celebrate the season with a family-friendly concert with the Seattle Jewish Chorale at Temple B'nai Torah at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12. Special guests the Shalom Klezmer Band, will join the Chorale, and Rabbi Jim Mirel will lead a community menorah lighting. Jews and non-Jews are welcome to the concert.

The concert will include excerpts from "Eight Days of Chanukah," a new eight-movement work by Mercer Island resident Abraham Kaplan, Professor Emeritus of Choral Studies at the UW, and former Director of the Seattle Symphony Chorale.

The Chorale will perform traditional and contemporary works in Hebrew, English, Yiddish and Ladino. Contemporary pieces include Tom Lehrer’s jazzy and humorous "Chanukah in Santa Monica" and Debbie Friedman’s "Build This World."

A reception and holiday bake sale follows the concert.
