Comcast Providing Free Calls to Japan for Xfinity Voice Customers

In the aftermath of Japanese quake and ensuing tsunami, Comcast and others are allowing customers to call friends and family in Japan for free.

The disaster continues to unfold after Friday's 8.9 Japan earthquake and following tsunami. Crews in Japan are working to prevent nuclear disaster at its damaged power plants, according to news reports, and hundreds of thousands of people continue to live in shelters or be evacuated from their homes.

For people with ties to Japan, Comcast has announced that it will provide free phone calls to Japan for Xfinity Voice customers.

During this extremely difficult time, we want to help our customers stay in close contact with loved ones in Japan. Therefore, we're offering our Xfinity Voice and Business Class Voice customers free calls to Japan from March 11 through April 10.

(If you've already been billed for calls made to Japan since March 11, you will receive a credit.)

For customers on our Worldwide 300 Call Plan who exceed their plan minutes, you will not be charged any additional fees for calls made to Japan during the allotted time period.

We will continue to keep all those impacted by these tragic events in our thoughts and wish them strength and courage during these trying times.

The company has already opened TV Japan (normally a premium channel that broadcasts Japan's NHK programming) .
