East Link Cost Savings Open House Today at City Hall

Sound Transit and the City of Bellevue will host an open house on the East Link Cost Savings Ideas from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday April 3 at Bellevue City Hall.

Sound Transit and the City of Bellevue will host an open house on the East Link Cost Savings Ideas Wednesday afternoon, before the Sound Transit board makes a final decision on what, if any, measures it will take to save costs on the light rail project through Bellevue.

East Link is the extension of Sound Transit's Link light rail system into the Eastside. The system will connect with the existing Seattle Central Link via Interstate 90 and Mercer Island, and will run through Bellevue and to Overlake.

However, city officials told Sound Transit at a presentation a year ago that cost savings are secondary to the city's primary concern of maintaining the quality of life in the neighborhoods that will be affected by the new trains.

Information on Cost Savings Ideas will be available including a chance to learn about the SEPA Addendum to the East Link Final Environmental Impact Statement. The Sound Transit Board of Directors is anticipated to decide in spring of 2013 whether or not to revise the adopted project by including any of the Cost Savings Ideas.
