Fathers' Group Criticizes Julia Biryukova, Mother of Missing Sky Metalwala
An advocacy group for shared parenting, Fathers and Families, posted an article critical of Julia Biryukova, the mother of missing toddler Sky Metalwala.
An advocacy group for shared parenting, Fathers and Families, posted an article criticizing Julia Biryukova, for qualifying for housing assistance a year after her toddler, Sky Metalwala, went missing.
The article on the Fathers and Families website was posted after reports on MyNorthwest.com that Biryukova qualified for housing assistance, based on documents obtained by reporter Linda Thomas.

On Fathers and Families, Robert Franklin, Esq., wrote:
[Biryukova] got rid of a child and managed to get the state to pay her living expenses into the bargain. She’s charged with nothing, has paid no price. The same system that takes children from parents for letting them play outside unsupervised gives a pass to Julia Biryukova.

Sky, who was 2 at the time of his disappearance, was reported missing on Nov. 6, 2011, by Biryukova. Biryukova, who was embroiled in a child custody dispute with her ex-husband, Solomon Metalwala of Kirkland, told police that she left Sky in her car parked on the side of the road while she went to get gas. After Sky disappeared, Solomon Metalwala won sole custody of their young daughter, Maile.
Bellevue police could not corroborate her story of her car breaking down. Police also said that it had been at least two weeks prior to Sky's disappearance since anyone apart from Biryukova had reported seeing the boy.
Metalwala, of Kirkland, has kept the search for his son going, with several widely publicized search campaigns and a vigil for Sky earlier this year and a one-year vigil last month.
