Five Things You Need To Know Today: Aug. 19

Get out and enjoy music, music and more music at local hangouts this evening.

1. The International Gathering is a monthly meeting at the , 1111 110th Ave NE, from 1 – 3 p.m., for those who like to meet people from different cultures and learn about their customs and way of life.  It is also a place for immigrants and international students to find a sense of community when they are far from their families. 

2. Lights! Camera! Action! Explore the ins and outs of clay animation at , 4091 Factoria Square Mall SE, from 6 – 7:30 p.m, sculpt your own clay figures and create a stop-motion animated film to take home. Parents enjoy this workshop as much as the kids! Pre-registration required, and the cost is $10. Recommended for ages 5 and up.

3. The first of a trio of musical events on our calendar at local venues this evening, is an evening of live classical guitar by Yakup Trana of Akdeniz at , 1032 106th Ave NE. It’s open for dinner, small bites, wine or after-dinner espresso and desserts, with entertainment from 7:30 – 10:30 p.m.

4. All the way from Ontario, Canada, the Bookends join , 600 Bellevue Way NE, Bellevue, to bring some alternative pop to town from 8 – 11 p.m.. Their upbeat style is reminiscent of Jayhawks, Cypress says - but you be the judge!

5. Last but not least, Michael Powers performs at , 700 Bellevue Way NE, in its Summer Jazz Night Series featuring live jazz performances from 9 p.m. to midnight.
