Five Things You Need To Know Today: June 24

Volunteer opportunities, kids concerts, and enchanting museum exhibits fill your calendar.

1. There will be a Sticks and Stones, Seeds and Bones concert at , 15600 NE 8th St., suitable for ages 2 and older with an adult, at 5 p.m. tonight, June 24. See, hear and sing along with unusual rhythm instruments from around the world.

2. Lake Washington VFW 2995 needs about 300 volunteers for the visiting Vietnam Wall coming to Sunset Hills Memorial Park from July 1-4. Volunteers are needed for tasks including managin parking, guiding visitors and taking a turn at reading the names out loud during the memorial ceremonies. 3. The  has an enchanting exhibit called Shhh ... Fairies, Gnomes, and Other Woodland Creatures, perfect for a day off with the kids. .

4. School’s been out for about a week in Bellevue—are the teens bored yet? If so, suggest a creative pursuit, such as making a video of their favorite book to enter in  contest? The deadline is July 31—more than enough time to read a book and make a video.  and maybe win a $150 gift card.

5. If those teens are having trouble finding summer jobs, how about a little volunteer work? The TriRock Triathlon Series is coming to Issaquah for its inaugural race on July 17. If you aren’t a triathlete, you can still participate—the organizers are looking for volunteers to support hundreds of runners, bikers and swimmers in attaining their goal of completing an Olympic triathlon.
