Five Things You Need to Know Today: March 1

Tuxes and Tails for the Seattle Humane Society, computer classes for seniors and free pancakes for a good cause.

1. Tickets to the Seattle Humane Society's are scheduled to go on sale today. The event includes a silent auction and celebrity and pet fashion show. The will hold the event on May 7 at the Hyatt Regency Bellevue. This year's emcees will be Herb Weisbaum of KOMO news and Margaret Larson, host of KING 5's New Day Northwest.

2. Seniors 50 and over can learn how to share photos, backup their computer data and use different tips and tricks in Google through SeniorNet, which is offering computer classes throughout March.

3. Need a career boost? Career coach Don Burrows will be at at 3 p.m. today and several upcoming Tuesdays for "Resumes that Resume  Careers," an hour-long workshop based on Burrows' book. Tickets are $30.

4. According to the International House of Pancakes, today is National Pancake Day. The will serve up one free, piping hot short stack to every customer on Tuesday, March 1, from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. The event raises money for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals and other designated local charities, according to IHOP.

5. Tomorrow, the Bellevue Botanical Garden will hold classes on how to make the beautiful light creations that become part of the display at the garden's annual winter time event, the Garden d'Lights. The class starts at 10 a.m. The cost is $5 for members; $15 for non-members.
