Light snow is possible this evening and Thursday before 10 a.m., as people get ready for a Thanksgiving that follows several days of freezing temperatures and icy road conditions, according to the National Weather Service.

But by Thursday afternoon, the snow is expected to change to rain, and temperatures are expected to rise above freezing for the first time in several days, said National Weather Service meteorologist Allen Kam. Showers will be likely through Saturday night, but temperatures are expected to be as high as 44 degrees on Friday, which is well above freezing.

The Washington State Department of Transportation warned  that Thursday morning's roads could be icy, due to the lingering cold temperatures.

"When any moisture hits while the road temperatures are still hovering around 20 degrees, it will likely turn to ice," Chris Christopher, maintenance director for the Washington State Department of Transportation, said in a prepared statement. "That could mean hazardous driving conditions. Our crews will be out very early Thursday and we are all watching the forecast overnight. It's very important for all drivers to check conditions all along their route before they leave."
