West Lake Sammamish Near I-90 to be Slated for Improvements Through Fall

Puget Sound Energy will relocate power poles and power lines on West Lake Sammamish between Interstate 90 roundabout and Southeast 34th Street. It's the opening of a long construction project.

Construction will start on West Lake Sammamish near Interstate 90 on July 2, as Puget Sound Energy is slated to relocate power poles and undergound and overhead power lines on West Lake Sammamish Parkway between the Interstate 90 roundabout and Southeast 34th Street.

Crews will close lanes of the road during the work, according to the city's update on the road plan. The utility's work will make way for Phase 1 of the West Lake Sammamish Parkway transportation project scheduled to begin this fall.

The West Lake Sammamish Parkway Project will enhance safety for pedestrians, bicyclists and drivers by providing a multi-use trail along the west side of the arterial, and it will restore the existing pavement while maintaining the distinct character of the area, according to a city bulletin.

The proposed construction plan breaks the roadway into five approximately mile-long segments.

The city plans to work on the first segment between Interstate 90 and Southeast 34th Street in the fall, after the completion of Puget Sound Energy's utility work, according to the bulletin from the city.

Along that road, the city plans to put a 10-foot wide path on the west side of the street, a four-foot shoulder on the east side, and two general-purpose travel lanes, according to the city update.

The city of Bellevue encourages drivers to find alternate routes if possible from July into the fall. For more information on PSE's pole relocation work, contact Kelly Purnell (PSE) at 425-462-3488 or emailKelly.Purnell@PSE.com.
