Communication Skills for Parents, Teachers and Caregivers | A Half-Day Workshop

Communication:  Styles - Techniques - Attitudes!  Using examples from everyday life, we will brush up on our communication skill and attitudes as we consider dynamics involving children and students, between co-parents, parents and teachers, and amid professional colleagues.  We will review tried and true techniques for holding question openly, listening, modeling appropriate verbal skills, and harnessing the power of nonverbal communication.

We will explore biases and barriers related to socioeconomic, cultural, linguistic and ethnic values; special needs; family structures; and how to overcome the most common pitfalls and misunderstandings.

We will learn techniques for collaborative conversations that uphold the teacher as an expert in children's ages and stages, and the parent as the expert on "this" particular child.  All of us can better understand ways to deal most effectively with difficulties, speaking our piece of the truth without escalating conflicts.
