FREE Seed Saving Workshop and Seed Swap

This event is hosted by the
King County Seed Lending Library and discusses how to grow a seed-saving garden, the biology
of seed saving, pollination and fertilization, and processing and saving seeds. It is designed to get you well on your way to becoming a proficient seed saver.

Participants
are encouraged but not required to bring seeds to swap with others. If you
choose to do so, please mark envelopes clearly with variety name, year seed was
saved, any notes about the individual plant’s characteristics, and what if any
measures were taken to prevent cross-pollination.

About
the King County Seed Lending Library and the Seattle Farm Co-op

The King County Seed Lending Library is a
volunteer run, community focused seed project committed to increasing the capacity
of our local food system. The library provides free Pacific Maritime
appropriate open source seeds, while fostering community resilience,
self-reliance and a culture of sharing. Co-founders Devon Thurtle Anderson and
Melany Vorass Herrera will be on hand to answer questions about how to use the
library.

In general, a seed library is a depository
from which members of the community can borrow seed. Borrowers grow the seed,
then let a couple choice plants ‘go to seed.’ Seeds are collected from these
plants and brought to the library for others to borrow free of charge. A seed
library promotes sharing open source seeds, improving local food systems,
encouraging self-reliance, building community, fostering a culture of sharing,
and most importantly, having fun!

The King County Seed Lending Library is
housed at and supported by the Seattle Farm Co-op. The Seattle Farm Co-op, a
collective located in the Central District, sells feed and farming supplies to
the greater Seattle area.
