Puget Sound Energy Helps Families Compete for Green in Web Series

Puget Sound Energy premiered the first episode of "Re-Energized by Design," a weekly online series following six families competing in five energy-efficient room makeover challenges with a $5,000 grand prize.

Six families will compete to be the greenest for $5,000 in Puget Sound Energy's web series, "Re-Energized by Design," a weekly online series.

The Bellevue-based utility, which provides power and gas to many cities and communities throughout the state, picked six PSE families to face each other in in five energy-efficient room makeover challenges, as contestants face design choices and tight budgets to create energy-efficient ideas.

Puget Sound Energy is providing contestants receive free energy-efficient light emitting diode (LED) and compact fluorescent light (CFL) lighting from GE and a small stipend to spend for each challenge. After each challenge the lowest-scoring contestant is eliminated.

The stakes increase with each challenge, with the final three contestants winning a high-efficiency clothes washer and matching dryer from Frigidaire, and the final two contestants winning a Frigidaire Ultra Efficient Kitchen with a refrigerator, dishwasher, range and microwave. The grand prize is $5,000.

Each contestant has their own “contestant cam” and works with a film crew to document their sweat and drama as they complete room makeover projects in the bathroom, office or garage, living room, laundry room and kitchen.

Design coaches are working with each contestant:

  • The ever-competitive Northwest lifestyle and entertaining expert Alexandra Hedin, design coach to the White family of Redmond
  • Do-it-yourself (DIY) force and Old House New Tricks blogger Alysha Findley, design coach to the Grafstein family of Shoreline
  • Master interior decorator Maggie Morgan, of Maggie Rose Interiors, design coach to the Mendes family of Seattle
  • Foodie, DIYer, Shelterrific blogger and bundle of energy Megan Barone, design coach to the Bedford family of Seattle
  • Architect, veteran remodeler and chezerbey blogger Lauren Zerbey, design coach to the Sayers family of Bellingham
  • The ultimate, practical-but-elegant interior decorating and home organizing resource Sara Eizen, of Nest,design coach to the Reilly family of Bellingham

Three local celebrity judges will determine the winners: society and event photographer Duell Fisher; 425 and South Sound Magazine Editor Lisa Patterson and radio personality Marty Reimer.
