Don'tlet Black Friday Shopping Leave You with Back and Neck Pain

     The big dinner is over and now it is time to hit the stores for all the DEALS.  Don't let Deals leave you with back and neck pain.  Before you leave you house, make sure you are wearing the most comfortable shoes you have.  Standing in long checkout lines can take a toll on your feet. 

Here are some tips to keep you Pain free this weekend:

  • Keep your feet dry by wearting cotton based socks to absorb moisture.
  • Keep that shopping load light by making frequent trips to your car to drop off packages.
  • Distribute the weight of shopping bags  equally on both sides of your body.
  • Make use of that shopping cart to help take stress off your back when dealing with heavy packages.
  • Keep your back straight and relaxed when walking.  Avoid slouching as your weight is shifted forward.
  • Women, Leave that heavy purse at home, consider using a small backpack.
  • Don't be afraid to ask for assistance when shopping involves lifting heavy objects.
  • Stay Hydrated by drinking plenty of water, take frequent breaks and enjoy a snack to keep up your energy, rest your feet.  Elevate your feet if possible to  reduce swelling during your break.
  • After a long day of shopping and being on your feet, be sure to stretch and flex your toes with controlled movements. 
  • Come home and soak in a hot bath or shower.
