Bellevue Nonprofits to Benefit from GiveBIG Charity Event May 2: Get Involved

During the one-day charity event, The Seattle Foundation will augment donations made to nonprofits through the foundation's website. Is your favorite nonprofit taking part? Tell us in the comments.

Bellevue nonprofits are set to benefit during The Seattle Foundation's GiveBIG event, which will augment donations made to nonprofits through the foundation's website.

That percentage depends on the amount of donations each nonprofit attracts on Wednesday, according to The Seattle Foundation.

About 1,300 nonprofit organizations are participating in the event, according to The Seattle Foundation's website.

"Stretching" Donations

According to The Seattle Foundation, each donation made through The Seattle Foundation's website to the any of the 1,300 profiled nonprofit  organizations between midnight and midnight (Pacific Time) on May 2, 2012 will receive a pro-rated portion of the matching funds pool (the "stretch pool"). So, if a nonprofit organization receives 3 percent of the total donations during GiveBIG, then it will receive 3 percent of the stretch pool.

Sponsors include Microsoft, the Bezos Family Foundation and others listed on the GiveBIG website.

Donors can win too

Throughout GiveBIG, donors will be chosen at random to have an additional $1,000 given to the charity that received their donation, according to The Seattle Foundation. The selected donor will also be eligible to win a Starbucks gift card worth $100.
