About Seattle Animal Shelter

The Seattle Animal Shelter began in 1972 and since that time, has worked tirelessly at building relationships within the community, including area animal welfare organizations, grass-root animal rescue groups and animal rights advocates in this area. Operating as a community based organization, the Seattle Animal Shelter continues to receive countless private and corporate donations which supports the life saving efforts of the Shelter and has enabled the staff to double the number of animals adopted over the last several years.

The Seattle Animal Shelter is the only municipal agency in the State of Washington providing low cost spaying and neutering to private pet owners. Through the activities of 400 volunteers, 250 foster families and a top notch staff who are dedicated to saving the lives of all animals, the Shelter is able to provide a vibrant adoption program and boasts a current live release rate of 93% - one of the highest in the country.
