Bellevue is fortunate to have Betsy Johnson on our school board. Having spent 19 years on the board myself, with a fundamental mission of providing an outstanding education to every child walking through our doors, it is clear that our district has grown immensely in its academic achievements yet it is still, and always will be, a work in progress.
Betsy was selected 18 months ago because she has the qualities that most guarantee effective work for our schools: intelligence, passion, knowledge, legislative savvy, critical thinking, clear ability to articulate, energy and time, with strong experience in both business and education.
Our district has long had an excellent fiscal reputation as well as strong, ongoing accountability for effective instruction using multiple data sources to best determine who is learning and who is not; and what is working and what is not.
Under Betsy’s leadership there has been a further push to encourage open participation in major district decisions, including effective committees for the math and gifted programs. We are in a difficult budget era, with tremendous need to work in best balancing differing interests and needs of children, employees, schools and more.
The knowledge and stability of Betsy Johnson serves us well especially during these challenging times.
