$1 Million Bail for Man Held in Fatal I-405 Crash

According to court documents, the man held in connection with the fatal crash that took the life of 22-year-old Ian Beckford told Washington State Troopers he had been going "150 mph" and that he had taken drugs in the days before the crash.

Bail was set at $1 million for a 27-year-old Woodinville man who Washington State Patrol say caused a four-car pileup on Interstate 405 late Thursday that killed 22-year-old Ian Riley Beckford of Federal Way.

The deadline for a charging decision is Wednesday, according to the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office. Patch is not naming the man because he has not yet been charged.

Beckford was on his way home from a day with his family on Lake Sammamish, according to family attorney Eric Makus, when around 9:45 p.m., his 2002 BMW 325 was rear-ended near Main Street in Bellevue by a 2008 Audi RS4 driven by a 27-year-old Woodinville man.

Beckford's car burst into flames and rolled over, according to the Washington State Patrol. The crash involved two other cars, and injured the driver of the Audi and his wife, who was a passenger, and two other people in another car, the state patrol reported.

According to court documents, the Audi driver estimated that he had been going "really fast, like 150 mph" before he started swerving and struck the barrier, losing control of his car.

He told investigators that he had smoked methamphetamine, and injected heroin and had taken methadone in the days before the crash, according to court papers.

When the trooper asked the man why, he responded, "Bored, I guess," according to the court documents.

According to court documents, the Woodinville man had moved to the area from New York City in May 2013, but was unemployed and had tried to return to NYC the day before the crash.

The attorney for Beckford's family said that the 22-year-old had been on his way home from a day with his family at Lake Sammamish.

The crash blocked the southbound lanes of Interstate 405 near Main Street in Bellevue late Thursday through early Friday as troopers investigated
