The Washington State Patrol believe alcohol was a factor in a Saturday morning crash in Bellevue that killed a 21-year-old Renton man.
According to a press release, troopers said the man was a passenger in a car attempting to turn onto Interstate 405 from eastbound on NE 6th Street and crashed head-on into the jersey barrier at 12:18 a.m.
Trooper Vanessa Barnes said the car, a black 2006 BMW M6, was totaled and the passenger was found dead at the scene of the crash. Authorities have not yeat identified the man pending notification of his next of kin.
The driver, a 31-year-old Renton man, was rushed to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with unspecified injuries. He faces charges of vehicular homicide as a result of the man's death.
Another passenger, a 19 year-old Renton woman, was also injured in the crash and was taken to Overlake Hospital.
It was unclear if anyone involved in the crash was wearing a seatbelt.
The accident forced the closure of the I-405 on- and off-ramps at NE 6th Street for over 3 1/2 hours.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
