Bail Set for Man Held in Fatal Factoria Shooting

Thursday is the deadline to file charges against the man who Bellevue police say turned the gun in to officers after the early morning shooting.

Bail was set at $750,000 Tuesday (Feb. 1) for a 24-year-old Renton man who arrested on suspicion of manslaughter fthe shooting death of a 28-year-old Bellevue man early Monday (Jan. 31.)

The Renton man has not yet been charged, but has been in custody since shortly after the shooting death of the 28-year-old man around 1 a.m. Monday. The man's next scheduled court appearance is 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, which is the prosecutor's deadline day to file charges.

According to court papers, police responded to a 911 call from the 28-year-old man's father at about 1 a.m. Monday in their apartment in the 12700 block of Southeast 42nd Street, off of Factoria Boulevard.

When police arrived, they located the 28-year-old on the floor of  apartment, dead of an apparent gunshot wound, court papers said.

Shortly after the investigation began, police say the Renton man arrived  to the scene and talked to investigators. Police said the suspect was wearing blood-stained clothing, had blood on his person and also handed in a gun that was reportedly used in the incident.

According to court documents, the man told police he was next to the man when the gun went off, but said the dead man "shot himself" and that it was an accident. He said he panicked and left the area without calling police, 9-1-1 or the man's father, but taking the gun with him, according to court documents.
