Bellevue and Medina Police Help Saturday with Prescription Drug Disposal, Paper Shredding

Medina and Bellevue police are organizing events that allow residents can safely get rid of items that can be hard to dispose of.

Spring cleaning is upon us; and it can be hard to dispose of prescription drugs, which can be stolen and abused, and bills and personal documents, which contain information that can be used by an identity thief.

However, Bellevue and Medina police departments are organizing events that can help residents get rid of such sensitive items

Bellevue

The  is partnering with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) as part of a nationwide prescription drug “Take-Back” initiative. We want your expired, unused, and unwanted medications, including prescription drugs.

On Saturday, April 28th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Bellevue Police will have three locations throughout the city set up to collect controlled, non-controlled, and over-the-counter medications. No identification will be required or requested. There will be a uniformed police officer available to assist you. Unused and unwanted medications will be collected at the following locations:

Individuals are encouraged to remove identifying information from prescription labels.  For more information and other collection sites visit:  www.DEA.gov and click on “Got Drugs?”

Due to the hazardous nature of some items, the following will not be accepted:  intra-venous solutions, injectables, syringes, or medical waste.

“Shredder Day” as most of you know is a great opportunity to protect yourself from identity theft and is sponsored by the Medina Police Department’s Crime Prevention Program.
Medina Police investigated over 70 cases of Identity Theft since 2008, and it continues to be a problem. MedinaPolice is always vigilant in proactive law enforcement and “Shredder Day” is one method in helping residents protect their personal information from being compromised.

Data Base Records Destruction Service truck will return once again and be at the Medina Park (across from St Thomas Episcopal Church) so you can witness your documents being shredded on site.
