According to a statement from the city of Bellevue, screening blood pressure and blood sugar levels are important for health:

High blood pressure or hypertension and diabetes are two of the leading causes of cardiovascular disease according to the American Heart Association.

Health officials say obesity and elevated cholesterol round out the top four leading causes of the life-threatening disease. Early detection and treatment of high blood pressure and diabetes can greatly reduce the risks of cardiovascular disease including the risk of having a heart attack.

Heart Week, a community outreach effort, offers the public an opportunity to visit with their local firefighters, physicians and nurses while working toward disease prevention, according to a city of Bellevue news release.
