Bellevue House Fire Displaces Four Late Monday Night

An 18-year-old son discovered the flames on the porch and helped his mother and two brothers escape before the home's smoke detectors activated. Damage estimated at $100,000.

Bellevue Fire Fighters say that four people were displaced by a fire at their home late Monday after a blaze on their porch damage their home.

The oldest child, an 18-year-old, discovered the fire helped his mother and two brothers evacuate before the home’s smoke detectors activated, according to Bellevue Fire Department spokesman Lt. Troy Donlin.

The residents of the home in the 3200 block of 110th Avenue Southeast told the fire fighters that they used a gas barbeque on the patio earlier in the day to cook fish for dinner. Just before 11:30 p.m., several hours later, the 18-year-old son was working in the kitchen when heard crackling sounds coming from the porch.

The young man spotted flames on the porch through the window and called 9-1-1 at 11:25 p.m. as he evacuated his family, according to Donlin in a press release.

Firefighters arrived in just over six minutes to find heavy fire on the exterior of the 3,000 square foot home, Donlin said.

Firefighters extinguished the fire within minutes but not before the fire broke a large kitchen window allowing smoke to enter the home, Donlin said.

Bellevue fire investigators confirmed the fire started on the porch, but the cause of the fire isundetermined. No firefighters were injured. The damage is estimated at $100,000.
