The 10-year-old boy is in serious condition at Harborview Medical Center Thursday night after he was pulled from a swimming pool at an apartment complex in the 900 block of Northup Way, according to a press release from the department.

Around 6:45 PM the 10-year-old boy had been playing in the apartment complex pool with other kids and the neighbor noticed that he did not get out of the pool when the kids got out, according to police.

The neighbor noticed that the boy was not floating and not moving and immediately jumped into the pool to check on him, police said.

The boy wasn't breathing when the neighbor pulled him out so the neighbor began CPR until the arrived, the police reported.

According to police, the boy appeared to have been with out oxygen for only a very short period of time.

The boy was transported to Children’s Hospital but medics took him to Harborview Medical Center after the boy continued to have problems breathing, police said.

The apartment has signs notifying swimmers that there is no lifeguard on duty at the pool. The boy's mother was also present at the pool, police said.

Bellevue Police and Fire asked families keep a close eye on children around pools, lakes and streams and to take basic CPR classes.

"This boy benefited from an adult who was closely watching the kids at the pool and had basic CPR training and did the right thing at the right time," according to Bellevue Police Department spokeswoman Lt. Marcia Harnden, who wrote the press release.
