K-9 Dogs Help Bellevue Police Capture Two in Lakemont Burglary

Bellevue police, with the help of police dogs from Kirkland and Federal Way, tracked two suspects to a hiding place in the woods in connection with a burglary of a home in the Lakemont neighborhood, the Bellevue Police Department reported.

A local resident called 9-1-1 to report seeing the suspects take the screen off a neighbor's window and enter the home, according to the press release by the police department. The caller described the suspects, took pictures of them with his cell phone and sent the images to the dispatch center, according to the press release.

The pictures and description helped police find the suspects, the Bellevue Police reported.

The suspects, both from Renton, ran from the home and through the woods toward a nearby golf course, police said.

Police dogs from Kirkland and Federal Way helped Bellevue police track the suspects to a ravine in the woods, where they had covered themselves with leaves and hid under a log, Bellevue police reported.

No officers or police dogs were injured during the incident, but medics aided one of the suspects after he sustained a dog bite, police said.

The Newcastle Police Department, the King County Sheriff's Office, and local news helicopters also assisted in the search, Bellevue police reported.

Crime Prevention Tips

Police offered the following crime prevention tips:

• Lock your doors and windows, including the door to the house from the garage.
• If you have a house alarm, use it.
• Keep shrubbery around the house trimmed and cut low especially around doors and windows.
• Park your vehicles in the garage.  If you have to park in the driveway, take the garage door opener out of the car every night.
• Be a good neighbor, if you see something suspicious, call 9-1-1. Stay on the phone and give as much information to the call taker as possible.
