Bellevue Way Crash Sends One to Harborview with Serious Injuries; Monday Evening Traffic Disrupted

A driver was taken to Harborview Medical Center with serious injuries after his BMW was T-boned by a flatbed truck near the Interstate 90 junction. Bellevue Fire Department said "jaws of life" were required to get man out of car.

A driver was taken to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries after the BMW 528i he was driving was T-boned on Bellevue Way SE by a northbound flatbed truck, according to the .

The crash occurred about 2:50 p.m., when the driver of the BMW 528i pulled out of the road -- which is SE 30th Street on the east side of Bellevue Way SE -- and was struck on the drivers' by the 2004 Mitsubishi flatbed truck, according to Bellevue police spokesman Officer Seth Tyler.

Tyler said it was still unknown whether the BMW driver was attempting to drive straight across Bellevue Way SE onto SE 30th Street or trying to make a left turn onto I-90 from the Sweyolocken Boat Launchm which is not allowed. Driving straight through is allowed.

According to the , the BMW had to be cut open with the "jaws of life" in order to remove the driver to get him to Harborview Medical Center. Further details on the driver were not available immediately.

The crash and investigation blocked both northbound lanes, including the Interstate-90 freeway offramp which intersects there at Bellevue Way SE, and reduced southbound Bellevue Way SE to one lane. The investigation was expected to last until past 6 p.m.
