UDPATE: House Fire in Newcastle Spreads to Second House

Roof caved in on first house, firefighters evacuated in time; second home sustained $30,000-$40,0000.

A Newscastle home's roof collapsed after in a fire early this afternoon that spread to neighboring house, both in the 8300 block of 128th Ave. S.E. 

Bellevue Fire got a call at 12:15 p.m. that a chimey was on fire at the first home, KOMO-TV reported. 

Bellevue Fire Command called the fire at both structures under control as of 1:45 p.m., said Lt. Troy Donlin of the Bellevue Fire Dept.

The first house sustained major damage, the second house minor damage, Donlin said.

The homeowner was out of town when the fire occurred, according to fire officials, KOMO-TV reported.

Bellevue firefighters on the scene were ordered to evacuate the the first house because it was too dangerous inside to fight the fire. Soon after the roof collapsed. All firefighters were accounted for after an emergency roll call, Donlin said.

Bellevue, Eastside, Renton, and Mercer Island firefighters arrived to work the two-home Newcastle fire scene.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Donlin said. 

Damage to the second home was estimated between $30,000 - 40,000, KOMO reported.
