'I'm Sorry to Tell You This, But This is a Robbery': Bellevue Crime Map

Four incidents were added recently to the Bellevue Police crime map, according to CrimeMapping.com, including an attempted robbery at a downtown business.

A man walked into a downtown business and demanded money from an employee in a reported attempted robbery this week, according to the Bellevue Police Department.

The incident was among four incidents added recently to the Bellevue Police crime map on CrimeMapping.com, which also included vandalism and driving while intoxicated.

Just before 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, the man walked into a business in the 800 block of 102 Avenue Northeast and demanded that the employee show him the business' safe, said Bellevue Police Det. Tory Mangione.

According to the employee, the man said, "I'm sorry to tell you this, but this is a robbery."

The employee told the man that the business didn't deal in much cash and there was no safe, Mangione said. The employee told police that he didn't see a weapon but the man kept his hands inside his pockets, which the employee took to mean that the man could have been holding a weapon.

The employee picked up the phone and the man ripped the phone cord from the walll, and asked for the safe a second time, Mangione said. The employee plugged the phone back into the wall and was able to call police, he said.

The man was described as black, in his 40s, about 5-feet 10-inches tall, 170 pounds and wearing a dark beanie, light colored pants and a denim jacket that had "No Denim" emblazoned on the back.
