A 72-hour deadline to charge the man has passed. Investigation continues.

King County Jail released a 24-year-old Renton man who was arrested in connection with Monday's fatal shooting in Bellevue, pending further investigation, according to the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.

According to court documents, the man told police he was next to the 28-year-old man when the gun went off, but said the dead man "shot himself" and that it was an accident.

The Renton man said he tried to revive the man who was shot, but panicked and left the area without calling police, 9-1-1 or the man's father, according to court documents. However, he took the gun with him, the documents stated.
