Mercedes Takes Dip Into Mercer Slough After GPS Mistake

Three women escaped a rented Mercedes after mistakenly driving off the Sweyolocken Boat Launch trying to get to Eastgate.

Three women escaped without injury when they made a mistake with their GPS and accidentally drove their rented Mercedes into Mercer Slough early Wednesday, according to Bellevue Police Department.

The women, who were visiting Bellevue from Mexico for a Costco conference, were trying to return to the Eastgate area when they mistakenly exited Interstate 90 at Bellevue Way SE, said Bellevue Police Department spokeswoman Office Carla Iafrate. The driver made a U-turn onto the road, and then drove off the boat launch by mistake, Iafrate said.

One of the women jumped out right away and waded back to shore; the other two escaped the vehicle and swam back, she said. The car was completely submerged, Iafrate said.

The crash was just an accident; there were no drugs or alcohol suspected in the crash and no citations were issued, Iafrate said.

The Mercer Island Marine Patrol assisted with a tow truck to pull the Mercedes out of the slough Wednesday morning, she said.
