Mudslide Damages Homes on West Lake Sammamish Parkway, Road Closed

The mudslide damaged three or four homes on West Lake Sammamish Parkway and about 30-40 people in the neighborhood are without water. A portion of West Lake Sammamish will be closed.

Three homes near the 500 block of West Lake Sammamish Parkway were damaged by a mudslide caused by a water main break Sunday, and about 30 to 40 people in the neighborhood are without water, according to the city of Bellevue emergency responders.

West Lake Sammamish Parkway is closed between the 500 and 800 blocks--between Northeast Second Street at Northup Way and Southeast 22nd Avenue, until further notice, according to the city of Bellevue Utilities Department.

"The road was undermined at the center of the road," said Mike Jackman, Utilities Interim Deputy Director.

No one was injured in the slide, which entered the homes and took out one garage, said Bellevue Fire Department spokesman Lt. Troy Donlin. One additional home is threateneed by mud.

Puget Sound Energy is on scene repairing a fracture of a 5/8-inch gas line that affected two homes, Donlin said.

About 30 to 40 homes are without water, but the utilities department hopes to restore service to all but six homes by this evening, Jackman said.

At this time, the cause of the break of the 60-inch pipe is unknown, he said.
