Murder Charges Filed in Downtown Bellevue Shooting

Sung Ho Kim, a 43-year-old Microsoft programmer, faces second-degree murder charges in the death of a man who was reportedly having an affair with his wife.

A 43-year-old Redmond man has been charged with second-degree murder after authorities say he who was reportedly having an affair with his wife.

According to charging documents filed Friday in King County Superior Court, Sung Ho Kim, a programmer, was angry about the affair on Tuesday when he went to approach the victim, identified as Jin Kim, at the Belle Arts apartments in downtown Bellevue, where the suspect's wife operated a business that employed the victim. According to the court documents, Sung Ho Kim and Jin Kim were not related.

The suspect's wife told investigators she was having an affair with the victim but that it was "emotional, not physical," according to court documents. The suspect and victim share the same last name but are not related.

Court documents state that Sung Ho Kim told investigators he was so upset about his wife's affair on Tuesday morning that he was unable to go to work and instead went to the apartment to talk to his wife and the victim. The suspect's wife said her husband told the other man he needed to quit her company and that "my wife is going to fire you," the charging documents state.

The victim told the suspect he could not be fired because he was under contract with the company, according to the suspect's wife. The suspect also told investigators that Jin Kim said he would leave the family alone for $500,000, at which point Sung Ho Kim allegedly became so upset he shot him in the face.

The suspect's wife told investigators her husband then threw the weapon, a 9mm Glock pistol, out the window and said, "My life is over, and I'll never see (my son) again," referring to the couple's 8-year-old child.

Sung Ho Kim remains in jail with bail set at $2 million. An arraignment has been scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Dec. 1 at the King County Courthouse.
