Paramedic Follows in the Footsteps of Bellevue Paramedics Who Delivered Him

San Francisco paramedic Mike Lam is visiting Bellevue this month to meet the paramedics who delivered him at his family's home 30 years ago.

A newborn baby saved 30 years ago by Bellevue paramedics is now following in their footsteps, according to the Bellevue Fire Department. 

Mike Lam was delivered by paramedics in Bellevue in 1981 after they came to his family's home, according to the .

Today he is a paramedic in San Francisco, according to the press release from the city and he plans to visit the Bellevue Fire Department to meet Battalion Chief Marty LaFave, one of the firefighters who delivered him.

Lam was born as a breech birth, which is a medical emergency that occurs when a newborn emerges feet-first instead of head-first, according to a press release.

“I wondered how that case had come out,” said LaFave in a prepared statement. “We had to resuscitate the child, and we wanted that newborn to have all the chances at a full life.”
